Emilie is a volunteer with our PEC Fresh Good Food Market and recipient of a PELC Learning Award in 2025, recognizing her outstanding dedication and growth in pursuit of her personal learning goals.
In May, Emilie went to the Ontario Legislature to meet with Bay of Quinte MPP Tyler Allsopp and to advocate for inclusion. Here is her story, in her own words!
“It was awesome going to Queen’s Park. I went up a day early with two support staff from Community Living. I wanted to memorize my speech and know exactly what I was going to say, so I wouldn’t be a bumbling mess! I spent about a week writing, with help from my support staff, but also mentally preparing.
“We sat through Question Period, that was really interesting, and afterward we met with Tyler Allsopp. We talked about the limited access to mental health support, and also the ‘Worth Fighting For’ campaign for the workers at Community Living.
“I hope it made an impact. I think it did …”
We think she made an impression! Mr. Allsopp posted a photo of the group at the Legislature, noting:
“Emilie is a strong voice for inclusion and accessibility in the Bay of Quinte, and I appreciated the opportunity to hear more about the ways that we could better support individuals with disabilities and the organizations that help them thrive in our communities.” – Tyler Allsopp, MPP
We’re very proud of Emilie’s advocacy and grateful to have her on our team!
